Travels with my Scooter – Get on that Plane

There were only 2 wheelchairs available for our flight to Airlie Beach so phew I just squeezed in.

2 Wheelchair passengers

Here are the 2 wheelchairs with their passengers. There’s yours truly. The other person has broken their foot. The next adventure is getting us both on the plane.

When to get to the airport

I had booked the assistance 5 days earlier but wasn’t across this 2 wheelchair rule. Next time I’m in a the know. I don’t know if it’s a Jetstar thing or a Sydney airport thing.

Get to the airport early, really early. It takes so much more time when you need assistance so don’t get your knickers in a twist about it if you are hanging around. I allow 2.5 hours from approaching check-in for domestic flights. I check in the mobility scooter, walking frame and cause it is already arranged there is a wheelchair to sit in.

Using the tarmac lift

There’s no airbridge today. If there’s no airbridge they will use a tarmac lift to get us on.

I like this part of the adventure as you often feel like you are being taken into the bowels of the earth and then pop out on the other side of different bits and pieces the ground crew are using.

We made it on in one piece. Cause we could stand both of us are on the lift at the same time.

As we arrive at Proserpine regional airport we are greeted with grassy fields and bush…and another tarmac lift Great invention.
