I’m checking out cool mobility scooters again, this time it’s one at Smiths Lake about 270km north of Sydney in New South Wales.

This place is so off the beaten track but oh what fantastic countryside we are driving through. It’s bush, bush, then more bush. Off the freeway you really feel like the bush is absorbing you.
Turn left the GPS says. I see a narrow dirt track embraced by trees and blue sky peering through. I’m not sure what to expect. Eventually the bush thins and I can see the lake peering through.

The view of the lake here is amazing. There is a thin strip of sand with some canoes sitting underneath a couple of trees waiting for someone to go for a fish. I know dad often fished at Smiths Lake back in the day.

Time to check out another mobility scooter. This one is one for rough terrain. The wheels seem huge! My challenge today is to see whether I can get around on gravel and dirt roads. It can travel up to 11km an hour but LOL I’ll settle for snails pace til I get the hang of it.

The dirt, even though it was at an incline and dipping away at the sides was easier to tackle than the gravel. Amongst the gravel were rocks and branches and I was travelling over them at a snails pace. Maybe it’s easier doing it a little faster.
I found the experience rewarding but there ain’t no power steering in these so you really need to pull down on one side with both hands to get it to turn. Takes some getting used to the owner tells me.
