I was very excited when they said that this beach had an mobi-mat. It was in the pipeline for a while at this beach. They already had a beach wheelchair. I was impressed that they managed to find the funds for both. They’re not cheap.
“The mat can accommodate a wide range of users, including people with mobility and visual impairments, the elderly, those using wheelchairs, mobility scooters or strollers and other groups with special access needs” – Plush Mobility

Time changes things. This photo was taken this afternoon. The sand has shifted. Once flat surfaces are now undermined in places.
Know your scooters limitations
At the start it looks like you’d get bogged so I didn’t give my mobility scooter a test run on the mat today. Yet I’m watching people this morning with trolleys loaded up for a day at the beach tackle it.

Sometimes you need to stick to your guns, know your limitations. I don’t care what the sales pitch was. I know my scooter. It looks a bit too steep. It doesn’t go down the beach as far as the hard sand.
There are other beaches
You may have seen a previous post from when I was in Burleigh Heads late last year. They want my business! They roll out their beach access mat every day. The beach is long and flat. Now that I know it will take a mobility scooter I will have to give it a go next time.
