Yesterday’s post was all about the popularity of a mobi-mat and the ins and outs of maintaining one. Today though I’m taking advantage of the surf clubs offer for me to take my mobility scooter on it. Thanks 😁

Yesterday the sand was soft at the start. All good today. They relaid the mat so it is in good form. At the start they’ve added what looks like a mat you would see in a commercial kitchen.

The new mat put down this morning looks great
Yes it’s on! Everything is ready to go. I can now get over the soft sand at the start. Here I go.

It is a bit steep but I’m taking it slow. There are three sections to it at the moment. I made it down all 3. I’m so glad I know my scooter like the back of my hand.
Support if things go wrong
Bob (not his real name) asked about the brakes on my scooter before I descended down to the steep part. Here he is wearing thick gloves guiding me down the final part reminding me that he’s there to make sure things go smoothly.

Doing a three point turn
When I got to the bottom I was able to do a three point turn on the mat to make my way back up. In truth though, due to it still being on an incline the wheels didn’t get great traction. The thin grains of sand were skidding it a little bit. That’s OK I had a trusty team to shift it around to where it needed to be. Once it was facing straight ahead I was good to go.
What slope can your scooter tackle
My scooter can take an incline of up to 9 degrees. The thing is you don’t exactly measure what that looks like. So yes what could possibly go wrong?
Then it conked out! I’m sure it was the steepness of the slope. Quick thinking. I made sure I had both motors on. You need two motors to handle these hills. The light was red but when I turned it off and then back on again it decided to work. Phew. Keep going!
Make sure your battery is fully charged
Note to self, make sure your mobility battery scooter is fully charged
Yes! I made it down and back on the mobi-mat on my portable mobility scooter. It was such a rush.
