Trip to Italy – Travels with my Scooter

Turin

I threw all caution to the wind taking my mobility scooter over to Italy from Australia last year. It wasn’t covered with insurance because it was a few years old.

Florence

I’d heard horror stories of the damage that can be done being in the cargo hold. I wasn’t sure how to get it over. I got it serviced before I left, grabbed a spare inner tube.

Then there were the doomsdayers telling me horror stories of the cobblestone streets. Would I be able to get around OK. They’re pretty treacherous I was told…and some were.

We were going on a driving holiday so I needed something that we could dismantle and still be able to fit all our luggage in the car. Because my partner would be doing all the heavy lifting I needed something light. He already packs and unpacks my scooter in Australia it made logical sense.

The final decision came when the quote we got to hire one in Italy came back at the same price to buy a new one. Crazy expensive to hire for a month but I think if I spoke Italian I would have found a medical equipment place that would do monthly hire.

Decision made.

As I sit here and reminisce about all the amazing adventures I was able to have. Well it was fantastic. I saw so much. Yes it is a bit tricky getting it over and back but the reward of using a piece of equipment that you know well is priceless. I knew it’s turning circle so could navigate narrow footpaths and shopping aisles. I knew it wouldn’t make a reversing signal so I could go into a church quietly without disturbing anyone if I needed to reverse.

It all came back undamaged and full of adventure. My trusty SupascootaHD did the distance!
