You can hire a mobility scooter at the Art Gallery of NSW. When I say hire I really mean borrow. All they need is some form of identification from you. I rang the previous day to book and needed to give them a pick up time.
Today I am going to see Magritte and, given I had a bit of a thing for surrealism back in the day, this exhibition was very special. I even wore a hat in tribute.

Disabled parking
You could catch a cab or drive as there is no public transport directly to the door. We drove and took our chances.
We were fortunate to get a disabled parking spot out the front. So rare. They did say not to come early when I booked the scooter. Crazy crowds first thing they said. Think that paid off. Thanks for the tip.
Trip to the cloak room
When I arrived I advised the usher at the front door of my mobility scooter booking and waited just inside the front door while they called it through on their walkie talkie. My carer took my walking frame to the cloak room. Then out comes the mobility scooter. It was perfect!

Some pretty cool paintings
Magritte had a real sense of humor. At least I think he did. It’s so evident in so much of his work. There’s the chicken and the egg picture which is so detailed until you click on what it is about.
It was just so interesting to see the diversity of his work. Nothing stuffy here. I think the ones we had the most fun with was one we named ‘It’s raining men’ (Golconda) and another we called ‘Gunby’ (The Ellipsis) where a green figure, that looks alot like a toy called Gumby that we used to play with we were kids. The nose was a gun…hence Gunby.

Great experience
You know how sometimes things just work out well? This was that day. I get the saying ‘the stars were aligned’. Everything slotted into place. Having a mobility scooter inhouse meant I was able to see the whole exhibition. I even grabbed lunch there. What a great initiative by the art gallery.
