Getting on Sydney‘s smallest ferry

Can I get on Sydney’s smallest ferry on my mobility scooter?

Me-Mel Minicat at Pirrama Parks new ferry wharf

I have a portable mobility scooter called a SupascootaHD. It’s pretty small and has had many adventures. Still, I really wasn’t sure as I headed up the gang plank of this Minicat ferry of what to expect. It’s a super small vessel. I’m glad my scooter was small enough and has a great turning circle to manoeuvre around it so I could get in and out of the cabin. It was a perfect fit 👍.

This ferry was built in 2019 and only became live as a regular part of the Sydney fleet a few months ago in April 2025. It comes about every half hour. It only stops at 3 places. Blackwattle Bay (grab a coffee) Pirrama Park (grab another coffee), and Barangaroo where there are loads of things to do . Here you can also take a connecting ferry to get around the rest of the Sydney ferry network.

Curious as to accessibility I reached out to the providers and they confirm what I fully expected. Standard mobility scooters won’t fit on this ferry. Here is there response;

Unfortunately, our mini-cat vessel, the Me Mel does not comply with the manoeuvrability space as specified on our website and the Transport for NSW website

Once the Sydney Fish Markets are added to this line next year I expect that the ferry type may increase in size. In the meantime stick to a portable mobility scooter if you want to get on and off the Minicat ferry class.
