The gem of Gundagai

I’m out and about at a place called Gundagai on my way headed south to Melbourne. It is about a 4hour drive south of Sydney. What a lovely country town. They have put a lot of love and attention into making the streets accessible. I’m scootering along happy as!

Dichotomy

Ramps ramps and more ramps

It’s a bit of a dichotomy though as the streets and sidewalks are so accessible but the shops aren’t.

Shops with stairs

A lot of councils won’t let the older buildings get modified that way. That happens all the time where I live.

For dinner I needed to leave the scooter outside. I was hanging on for grim death on my hubby. I’m not that stable and less so when we have been driving for hours. I eventually started to fall sideways. Someone at the bistro grabbed hold of me around the waist so I didn’t. Quick thinking but a lesson learnt. I can’t cut corners!

For me it’s OK if I know I can’t bring the scooter in. We drive up instead and I walk in with my walking frame but after a scooter all the way there I thought I could wing it. I just can’t do that no matter how stoic and confident I come across.

Gundagai Theatre is now a store

Still with houses in the big cities being so ridiculously expensive moving your family to a place like Gundagai would be a great move. They struggle to get staff in some places. The club had to shut down the restaurant cause they couldn’t get a chef. While the pay may not be the same, living in a friendly community like Gundagai more than makes up for it. I’ll even throw in a portable ramp for when I come and visit.
